Saam Guatemala’s 23m ASD tugboat Saam Itza sailed from Med Marine’s Ereğli Shipyard to Puerto Quetzal on 15th of July, 2019.
Med Marine and Saam Guatemala signed a contract for a MED-A2360 series tugboat for the towage company’s Puerto Quetzal operations on May 2019. Puerto Quetzal is Guatemala's largest Pacific Ocean port for bulk and container cargo, and the largest in terms of cargo tonnage handled. Puerto Quetzal incorporates multiple speciality terminals (container, bulk sugar, LPG, bulk fuel & coal), and is an important stop-off point for cruise liners.
The equipment, technology and dimensions of the SAAM Itza make her especially suitable for operating in this port with restricted manoeuvrability spaces.
Saam Itza is a Ramparts 2300-MM tugboat, an exclusive design for Med Marine. Med Marine built 6 units of the same design with 50 TBP some of which were recently sold; some are being operated in Med Marine’s national fleet. A 360 virtual tour of the 2350 ASD tugboat can be viewed at following link:
